From May 8 to 28, 2023, the Mérieux Foundation and Santé Monde carried out a joint scoping and baseline assessment mission with the Ministry of Public Health and Prevention, in order to launch the activities of the REDISSE IV project in Chad.

The objective of this first joint mission was to evaluate 20 health districts selected for the establishment of an Epidemiological Surveillance Center (ESC) in Chad. Working alongside the authorities of the Ministry of Public Health and Prevention (MSPP) in Chad, the Mérieux Foundation and Santé Monde studied the feasibility of the project to set up 20 ESCs by selecting the relevant health districts. Eight assessors were also provided with training and 16 national trainers were identified. Lastly, the baseline assessment of the selected health districts identified their strengths and areas for improvement, along with the training needs for each district.

The scoping mission marks the launch of activities for the REDISSE IV project in Chad. Funded by the World Bank, the REDISSE IV (Regional Disease Surveillance Systems Enhancement) project supports countries in the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), helping them to reinforce their disease surveillance and epidemic response capabilities, as part of a One Health approach.

In this context, the MSPP in Chad has appointed Santé Monde, in partnership with the Mérieux Foundation, to set up 20 epidemiological surveillance centers.
